Exemptions

Accredited Learning

For candidates with prior accredited learning and relevant experience, exemptions from certain modules may be awarded. Exemptions are considered on a per module basis, normally for a maximum of 5 modules out of the total 20 in each cycle (or 30 ECTS). Applications for exemptions are evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the programme board and are generally based on the proportion of the learning outcomes of a module already achieved. Exemptions cannot be considered after registration.

If seeking an exemption a dedicated exemption form (for the Diploma or Degree cycle as relevant, available to download below) must be completed and academic transcripts and other supporting documentation should be submitted at the application stage. Please be aware that it can take considerable time to obtain exam transcripts and course syllabi if not already to hand, so you should contact the providing institute in good time.

Recognition of Prior Learning

Exemption applications can also be based fully or partially on experience. If you wish to submit an exemption application based on experiential learning as opposed to formal certified learning please contact the NUI Galway RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) co-ordinator Suzanne Golden on 091 492659, 10.00am- 1.30pm daily.
